No Sound Detected after update Windows 10
Recently one of our laptops all of a sudden experienced an issue where no sound detected after update Windows 10 version 2004. It was an Acer Aspire 5 laptop. I tried everything including uninstalling the Audio and Realtek drivers and letting Windows re-detect the drivers. Also uninstalled the drivers and installed the latest audio drivers from the Acer website and Acer Care application. Nothing worked.
I’ve seen this happen on multiple occasions and I’ve fixed it using two different ways.
Disclaimer:
This may not work for everyone, but it has worked for me. Please understand there is some risk that comes with these two solutions. Please seek answers from an IT professional if you do not feel comfortable performing these steps yourself.
Solution 1
Navigate to the Windows Update Catalog and search for the driver (i.e. Realtek drivers (sound)). Locate the best driver or drivers for your hardware and download and install it. The Windows Update Catalog is a resource that doesn’t get enough credit in my opinion. I’ve used it for many years, yet it seems to be relatively unknown. My colleagues and I have been able to resolve various driver issues using this site. In many cases, it is better than the OEM site. This was the case when my wife’s Acer Aspire 5 laptop sound stopped working after the latest Windows 10 update. What do you have to lose? You have no sound, so you might as well give this a shot.
Solution 2
Another sure-fire way to resolve this issue is to reset your PC. Basically what this means is to reinstall Windows 10. I’ve done this also and confirm that it does solve the issue. Of course, this is much harsher and will take a lot more time than Solution 1. The only nice thing about this is that is does a clean install and allows you to keep your files if you choose. There are plenty of articles out there that walk you through resetting your PC so there is no value for me to blog about this. Here is a link to a How To Geek article on Resetting PC Windows 10. It is a little old but still relevant and should get you going.
